Hold on to your hats….it’s about to get Windy

The Power of wind

Wind is created when the sun heats a specific area of the land; in turn, the air surrounding this area absorbs some of the heat. Since hot air is lighter than cold air, the heated air rises. In turn, the hot air rising allows cold air to fill the gap; hence, the cold air rushing in causes wind.

Wind Power is much cheaper than almost all types of other power. If you are able to find an efficient location the energy you cultivate from the wind generator can be golden. Of course, the biggest factor for most people nowadays is the tremendous environmental benefit of replacing traditional energy producers with generators. Wind generators are extremely environmentally friendly, as no pollutants are created by harnessing wind power. Wind generators are beginning to become a trendy choice to show one's environmentally conscious lifestyle and their proactive personalities.

Windmills have been around for 1,300 years, first used in ancient Persia to grind grain. In the United States windmills are part of the classic American Western landscape, and today, high tech wind turbines have become a source of clean renewable electrical energy.

Modern wind turbines
using advanced technologies are able to produce electricity for homes, businesses , and even utilities. A wind turbine consists of three major parts: rotor blades, shaft, and the generator. The rotor blades are like the sails of the system. By creating a barrier against the wind the wind forces them to spin. When air moves quickly, the particles are moving quickly. Hence, wind energy can be captured in a wind-electric turbine, just as moving water can be captured via a hydroelectric dam. The shaft is connected to the middle of the rotor; in turn, when the rotor blades spin they cause the shaft to spin. When its movement causes the rotation of blades on a wind turbine we are using kinetic energy.

California produces more electricity from wind than any other state. And even though California's wind turbines do not operate year round (winds must be blowing at least twelve miles per hour to generate electricity), California's wind turbines generate enough electricity to power a city the size of San Francisco for a year.

Wind energy is free, renewable and causes no pollution. Depending on a person's circumstances, equipment like a wind turbine and a tower can be installed to put wind power to work reducing or eliminating electric bills.
